A beginners guide to the Law of Attraction

Manifesting, Gratitude and deciding to live the life I always dreamt of…

I know, I know – you must have seen this title and thought, ‘Woah! Okay hun… wait, what?! You were writing about moisturiser last week…?!’. I get it, a beginners guide to the Law of Attraction is definitely not something I would have predicted myself writing about even 3 months ago, but it has honestly 180’ed my life since discovering it as a concept at the beginning of this year (the 6th January to be exact!).

To give the full background, I was waiting to catch bus to work on my first day back after Christmas break. I know I’m not alone in feeling that sinking feeling going back to the daily grind after time off for festivities with loved ones. I was waiting in line at the bus stop when I made the decision to forgo my usual Cardi-B playlist which I used to drown out the sea of noise on the bus, and instead decided to try out an audio book.

I chose The Secret and I think that was the best decision of my life so far. And to date, I’ve listen to it in full about 7 times since!

Bare with me hear, I can almost hear the eye rolls as my usual readers read this, but please consider I was a total sceptic to all of this too before I began ear-reading…

To be brief, the general concept of the book is almost a beginners guide to the Law of Attraction itself, which basically dictates that the Universe will give you anything you ask for, so long as you are open to receive it. I know, it sounds lame… that is until you dig further and read deeper into The Secret and around the law of attraction in general, and to hear how it all really works. The key is to be open; to ask for the things you dream of in life, then believe that your are fully deserving and capable of receiving them and being completely open to them when they arrive with you. There’s a real element of faith and trust in the Universe’s capability and offerings, which really are endless if you are open to them.

An example that sticks with me is to think of things in a positive way at all times; the author Rhonda Byrne speaks of how Mother Theresa would not attend an anti-war rally, but would happily come along to a peace rally. And this is because actively fighting war keeps war at the forefront of the effort, where as fighting for peace means to focus on the benefits peace and the association with war is completely incidental and interchangeable in this way of thinking.

I don’t want to spend TOO much time chatting about The Secret, but I couldn’t tell my story and write this beginners guide to the Law of Attraction without highlighting its significance to my journey so far. I would really really recommend reading it if you get the chance. I’m in no way exaggerating when I say it changed my life; that week I started listening, I felt a switch in me. I found a full and powerful sense of confidence in my ability to manifest me dream life, and was seeing signs all over that were telling me to go for it. Since that I have quit my job to work as a freelancer and have lined up lots of work already in such a short time, after living miserably for a long time now working for the benefit of others that saw no real value in me.

The Law of Attraction is definitely not a new phenomenon In fact it might be one of the oldest concepts in science. I won’t even begin to butcher the concept in my own words, but here’s a summative quote for context:

The Law of Attraction is the belief that positive or negative thoughts bring positive or negative experiences into a person’s life. The belief is based on the ideas that people and their thoughts are made from “pure energy”, and that a process of like energy attracting like energy exists through which a person can improve their health, wealth, and personal relationships.

If you’re new to manifestation and the Law of Attraction, and you want to learn more, there are endless resources out there. But as a start, you have to begin with gratitude and a positive approach to life in general. Being gratfeul for what you have now sends the signal that you already have enough, and therefore having enough continues to be your reality. The the rest is down to manifesting by the book – here are the steps I take when bringing the things I want to reality:

Step One – Decide what you want and ask for it

Be specific and exact. Rough ideas and vague dreams are unclear. How can you get what you want if you haven’t properly thought about what that is? If you want more money, how much? If you want success, what is success to you? If you want harmony in a relationship – what does that look like?

Step Two – Visualise and believe it can be yours

One of my favourite quotes ever is ‘whether you believe you can or you can’t, you are right.’ – and it’s so true! If you want millions but believe it could never happen to you, how the hell is going to happen to you? If you really long for your dream partner but believe you’re ugly and hard to handle, how are you ever going to be open to finding your dream husband or wife? You have to close your eyes, clearly visualise yourself having what you want, imagine how it feels, and trust it. You are as worthy as anyone else. You are limiting your own potential, you and you alone.

Step Three – Take inspired action

Now that you know what you want and believe it is yours, you can rest comfortably knowing it is on the way. In this bliss you can take every opportunity presented to you to get all you want, know that it’s all being sent to you on purpose.

Okay, now that’s a lot to take in I know, but this really is just a beginners guide to the Law of Attraction – there is so much more to learn! But I really hope this can inspire you to think more positively about your plans and goals in life, and assure you as long as you know you are worthy of them, you are on the right path girl!
